We are pleased to welcome Trudy Golley, an internationally recognized professional artist visiting from Red Deer, Alberta. Trudy was inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) in 2002 and elected to the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) in 2019, and recently retired from serving as the head of Ceramics and an instructor in the Visual Art Department at Red Deer Polytechnic. Trudy’s artist talk will be followed by a question and answer period and potluck.
You are invited to bring your favourite dish or appetizer on a food-safe ceramics dish that you have created, or a reusable plate. Contribution to the potluck is optional; if you don't have time to prepare a dish, please come and eat anyway. Your presence is the best thing you can bring!
The aim of this one-day studio intensive demonstration workshop is to unlock the potential of glazes and underglazes to achieve rich surfaces that support and enhance the forms. This intensive demonstration workshop will cover glazing and decorating techniques that start at the raw and leather hard stage and continue into bisque and multi-firing strategies. Surface decoration techniques include but are not limited to creating your own image transfers, using slip for texture, wax resists, inlays and more. Trudy will also share about different ways of combining a limited number of glazes to get a variety of outcomes, so that you’ll leave feeling ready to invite surface decoration as a part of the planning process, instead of an afterthought to your creativity.
This program is designed for intermediate to advanced potters looking to expand their understanding of glazing techniques to further their personal studio practice.
