The Trails In Motion Film Festival is an annual international film and content showcase for the community, by the community, bringing a collection of the finest trail and ultra running films to passionate audiences around the world.

From the wild Canadian forests to the Italian Dolomites, and from iconic mountain ranges to beloved local trails, this year’s program will take you on a breathtaking journey through the world of trail running.

Our partner for the evening, Run Uphill, will be hosting a raffle giveaway during intermission, so be sure to grab your tickets for a chance to win!

Evan Birch & Nova

Evan Birch is a Calgary-based ultra-runner, endurance coach, and mental health advocate who explores the intersection of mental health and endurance sports through his adventures. Right alongside him is Cassie Hawrysh, his wife, crew chief, and the operational mastermind keeping every big effort on track; and then there is SuperNova, an elite, high-energy 9-year-old Vizsla turned legend on the trails.

SuperNova: captures their incredible journey together, highlighting the unbreakable bond forged on the trails and the sheer resilience of an adventure dog pushing beyond limits. More than just a story of human and canine endurance, the film serves as a tribute to dogs everywhere and the bonds that are created between humans and dogs. Off the trail, Evan, Cassie, and Nova remain dedicated to community advocacy and inspiring others to step outside and find their own edge.

Backyard Everest

This film follows Karoline Hanks as she takes on an extraordinary Everesting challenge on Chapman's Peak in Cape Town. By running up and down the iconic route 14 times, equivalent to the height of Mount Everest, Karoline pushes her physical and mental limits in support of Project Noordhoeked, a local organization dedicated to keeping the beach, roads, and natural environment clean. More than a personal endurance feat, this challenge becomes a powerful act of community commitment, where every step contributes to protecting and giving back to the place she calls home.
