David Braid & Redline Trio: Melodic Archetypes

Acclaimed in the Canadian Press as "a true renaissance man of Canadian music," David Braid is a distinguished composer, improviser, and pianist who has been nominated for JUNO Awards ten times, winning four. Throughout his career, he has distinguished himself as one of a few creative artists capable of engaging audiences in both classical and jazz communities, composing chamber music for notable ensembles that resonates with diverse audiences while transcending traditional genre boundaries. His chamber compositions have been described as “enchanting” (The Age, Australia), “sophisticated” (The New York Observer), and “hauntingly beautiful” (The Globe & Mail, Canada.) Additionally, his first film score won two Canadian Screen Awards (formerly Geminis) for “Best Original Score” and “Best Original Song".

Since 2016, Redline Trio has been featured weekly at Betty Lou’s Library, an award-winning speakeasy in downtown Calgary. They have presented concerts at the National Music Centre (King Eddy), cSPACE, artsPlace Canmore, and more. They have featured various renowned guest artists, including Juno-winners Brandi Disterheft, Brad Turner and David Braid, New York pianist Steve Hudson, poets Shari-D Wilson and Quincy Troupe, as well as vocalists Allison Lynch and Kate Melvina. Their 2024 Chronograph vinyl album “Underdog” was the YYC Music Awards winner for Best Jazz Album.
