Our main entrance faces 8 Ave. An accessible ramp leads to the doors, which have push-button, power-assisted openers. One accessible parking space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

artsPlace offers a stand-alone accessible, gender neutral washroom with a push-button automatic door to ensure comfort and independence for all visitors. An additional accessible stall is also available in the men’s and women’s washrooms for visitors using mobility or assistive devices, offering extra space to move around comfortably.

To support the diverse needs of our visitors, we offer a range of assistive tools and resources designed to make your experience comfortable and accessible.

• Sensory Cart: For visitors who are neurodiverse or experience sensory sensitivities, sensory items are available on a moveable cart that can often be found in the theatre. The cart contains calming and tactile tools that can help reduce overwhelm, provide comfort, and support focus during your visit or program participation. These items can be removed from the cart and used for the duration of your visit, after which, we ask that they be returned to the cart for someone else to use.

• Language Translator: To make communication easier for visitors who prefer languages other than English, artsPlace provides a translation device capable of supporting many languages. Staff can assist you in setting it up so you can communicate comfortably and clearly in the language you prefer.

• Gallery Accessibility: We do our best to include accessibility features in our gallery exhibitions, though this may vary depending on the exhibition and the artist’s preferences. Some of the accessibility options we’ve added include bump dots to assist with proximity and orientation, image descriptions and a text reader for visual accessibility, and whenever possible, a tactile or touchable artwork component to enhance the sensory experience.

artsPlace is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for all visitors, including individuals with disabilities and neurodivergence who are accompanied by a support person. Caregivers who are accompanying a neurodivergent or disabled community member to offer them support may attend classes and events at artsPlace free of charge. Please call artsPlace in advance to secure your registration.

Designated accessible seating is available in all artsPlace performance and program spaces for patrons who use mobility devices, people who have accessibility needs, and their companions. We make every effort to accommodate individual needs and ensure that everyone can comfortably enjoy our events and activities. Upon request, artsPlace can adjust table heights and provide a variety of seating options to accommodate individual comfort and accessibility needs.

We are pleased to welcome visitors with disabilities who are accompanied by a service animal in all public areas of artsPlace. If you are attending a ticketed event or program and require specific seating arrangements to accommodate your service animal, please let our team know when purchasing your ticket. We will do our best to ensure you and your service animal are comfortably accommodated.

We kindly ask that service animals are easily identified through visual indicators such as a harness, vest, or certification tag, or by observing that the animal is performing specific tasks to assist their handler.

We are mindful of the diverse needs of our visitors and want to help everyone feel as comfortable and prepared as possible when attending a class. To support this, starting in 2026 we will provide information in advance about classes that may include elements some participants could find challenging or that may require preparation. We aim to do this because everyone’s needs and sensitivities are different, and our goal is for everyone to feel welcome and comfortable.
